A unique hands-on experience with Greenlandic wool
Brattahlid Wool Workshop offers a unique and immersive experience where you work with Greenlandic wool in the historic surroundings of Qassiarsuk – known as Erik the Red’s Brattahlid.
Here, you are invited into the world of wool and traditional crafts, learning essential techniques in wool spinning, felting, and natural dyeing, rooted in local materials, history, and storytelling.
During the workshop, you may:

Spin your own yarn using a drop spindle or spinning wheel, learning how raw wool becomes usable yarn

Felt wool using different techniques, including wet felting and needle felting

Experiment with plant dyeing, colouring wool and yarn with local plants and herbs from the area

Explore natural colours, textures, and shapes inspired by the Greenlandic landscape
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with experience. It is not only about learning a craft, but also about heritage, sustainability, and storytelling. Along the way, we share the story of sheep farming in Greenland, the importance of wool for everyday life and survival, and how ancient techniques are still relevant today.

En sanselig og autentisk oplevelse med grønlandsk uld
Brattahlid Uldworkshop tilbyder en unik og nærværende oplevelse, hvor du arbejder med grønlandsk uld i historiske omgivelser i Qassiarsuk – kendt som Erik den Rødes Brattahlid.
Her inviteres du ind i uldens verden og lærer de grundlæggende teknikker inden for uldspinding, filtning og naturlig farvning, med udgangspunkt i lokale materialer, traditioner og fortællinger.
I workshoppen kan du:

Spinde dit eget garn på håndten eller spinderok og lære, hvordan rå uld forvandles til brugbart garn

Filte med uld ved hjælp af forskellige teknikker – både vådfiltning og nålefiltning

Eksperimentere med plantefarvning, hvor garn og uld farves med planter og urter fra området

Arbejde med naturlige farver, teksturer og former, inspireret af det grønlandske landskab
Workshoppen er velegnet for både begyndere og øvede og handler ikke kun om håndværk – men også om historie, bæredygtighed og fortællinger. Undervejs deler vi historien om fårene i Grønland, uldens betydning for overlevelse og hverdagsliv, og hvordan gamle teknikker stadig lever videre i dag.
